The Incredible Hulk: "Diagnosis Negative"

David Banner finds himself in Chicago at the wrong time. Question is: will he he able toto get out of dodge before Jack McGee spots him?

[Ted Cassidy's Voice:] Dr. David Banner—physician, scientist...searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have.  Then, an accidental overdose of gamma radiation alters his body chemistry.  And now, when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs...  "Raaaaaaarh!"...  The creature is driven by rage and pursued by an investigative reporter. [Dr. Banner:] "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry.  You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.". . .  The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. . .  David Banner is believed to be dead.  And he must let the world think that he IS dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him... "Raaaaaaaaaarh!"

"I do not own the rights to the Incredible Hulk, nor do I own any of the characters that are associated with the television show.  A lot of (not all) of the places, addresses, people, and story-line are fictional.  Anything or events that are similar to stories or locations, past and present, was completely and utterly unintended or coincidental."

This episode (if aired) would have been the episode after "The Incredible Leap, Part 2." and, at this point, takes place 139 days after the even of: "A Minor Problem," which aired on Wednesday, May 12, 1982.  It starred: Nancy Lee Grahn as Patty Knowlton, Linden Chiles as Cunningham, Lisa Jane Persky as Rita, and Gary Vinson as Sperling.

The premise of this story-line  coincides with a true historical event.  However, the characters in the script, as well as the story-line, are fictional and have no influence on the historical event.

4:21 p.m. (CDT)

It was sunny day and 73° in Chicago.  It was a busy day at the National Register.  All day long, there was the typing on computer keyboards and the sound of printers, printing all the stories of all journalists employed there.  Jack McGee is the hallway with a 22-year-old intern named: Billy Morris.  Jack is reading an article that Billy wrote as the both walked along through the hallway and turned right into the office.  It was at that moment that Jack finished reading the article.

Jack: "Uh, look, Billy, the story has SOME potential, but I highly doubt that Mark is gonna go for it."

Billy: "Why not?  Mister Roberts has liked the other articles I wrote."

Jack: "You mean the articles I let him see because I knew he'd like them.  And I was right."

Billy: "You mean he didn't see all of them?"

Jack: "Billy, I've worked here for 11 years.  I know that types of stories that Mark would and wouldn't like.  You have what it takes to be a good reporter.  I'm only looking out for you.  Newspaper writing is suppose to be simple, concise, and to-the-point."

Billy: "I guess I'm not the writer I thought I was."

Jack: "Look, you've been doing human interest stories right now.  Human interest stories are pretty much what they sounds like.  They're stories that interest humans.  Those kinds of stories are hard to come by.  How about feature writing?"

Billy: "Isn't that kind of like the same thing?"

Jack: "They have their sudden differences."

Billy: "I can't believe it's this hard.  I attended Emerson College in Boston, I still haven't found what I'm good at."

Jack: "Emerson College.  You mean the one on Boylston Street?"

Billy: "Yeah."

Jack: "That's a good school for journalism."

Billy: "Did you go there?"

Jack sat behind his desk, which had the IBM Personal Computer #5150 on it.

Jack: "No, I went to Northwestern in Evanston."

There was moment of silence.

Billy: "God, I hope I'm in the right field."

Jack: "Billy, you're only an intern right now.  It takes a little time for a journalist to find his or her niche."

It was then that Mark Roberts, Jack McGee's editor, began to pass by.  He suddenly stopped and turned around to look at Jack.

Mark: "Oh Jack, did finish that piece on NASA launching 'Intelsat V' satellite, number.505?"

Jack picked up two pieces of computer print-out paper.

Jack: "Right here, Mark."

Mark happily took the two pieces of paper.

Mark: "Excellent.  Over on hour ahead of schedule."

Billy: "I was going to get some coffee.  Do you guys want any?"

Billy walked away.

Mark: "No thanks, Billy."

Jack: "Yeah, we're all right."

Billy walked away.

Mark: "So, how's the new intern working out?"

Jack: "Well, he has promise; ambitious.  He's taken a little time to get his feet.  He trying.  That's enough for now."

Mark: "You never know.  He might be your successor in reporting Hulk sightings."

Jack stretches his arms.

Jack: "Hey, I still have a good 15 years left in me.  Besides, the Hulk sighting are getting less and less frequent."

Mark: "You look tired, Jack."

Jack: "That's funny, because I feel exhausted."

Mark: "Why don't you go home, Jack?  You're ahead of schedule with your articles as it is.  It's almost quiting time anyway and almost time for the second-shifters to come in."

Jack: "Yeah, you're right."

Jack turned off his computer for the night.

          "I could use the rest."

Jack stood up from his chair.

"And as far as the Hulk goes, for all we know: he could be a million miles away."

Mark: "True.  But you never know.  The Hulk may be closer than you think."

Jack watched Mark walk away, taking his article to be put on the Run Sheet for the next morning's news.  Jack let out a sigh and said with an incredulous tone:

Jack: "Yeah, yeah."

Jack walked out of the office with his destination being his 15-20 minute drive to his home.

Walgreens - Store #9438
30 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, Illinois  60602
Tuesday, September 28, 1982
5:54 p.m. (CDT)

Inside the Walgreens store, everyone, such as cashiers, stock-boys, the photo shop, etc, was working very hard.Toward the back of the store was a pharmacy, where stood a man in his early-60's, wearing a shirt and tie and wearing a blue lab coat over it.  He wasAmos McIntire, the pharmacist who worked at Walgreens.  He was giving an elderly lady her medications.

McIntire: "Here ya are, Mrs. Wagner."

The lady took the prescriptions.

Mrs. Wagner: "Thank you so much, Amos."

McIntire: "You're very welcome.  I'll see ya next month."

Mrs. Wagner: "I'll see ya then."

Mrs. Wagner walked away and Ms. Ramsay walked up to the counter.

McIntire::"Ms. Ramsay, how are things?"

Ms. Ramsay: "Very well, Amos, thank you.  Is my medication ready?"

McIntire: "Well, let me see..."

McIntire turned the other way.

                 "Mister Bantfield?!"

David came walking around the corner from one of the shelves of the pharmacy, wearing a botton-down collared shirt and a blue lab coat.

David: "Yes, Mister McInter?"

McIntire: "Do you know if Ms Ramsay's medication had been refilled?"

David: "Ms Gertrude Ramsay, yes."

David took the medication out of the plastic bag, but it into a Walgreens pharmacybag, stapled it shut and gave it to Ms. Ramsay.

            "Here you go, Ms. Ramsay."

Ms. Ramsay: "Well, thank you.  My my, your a new face around here."

McIntire: "This is: David Bantfield, my new pharmacy assistant.  He's only been on the job a couple of weeks, but it seems like he's worked here as long as I have.  This man knows his medicine backwards and forward.  He's got a system that I'm not even going to try to understand.  All I know is: it works efficiently and smoothly.  Even getting a little bored myself."

Ms. Ramsay: "Well then, I guess I'll see you two next month."

David: "Bye, Ms. Ramsay."

McIntire: "And stay out of  trouble."

Ms. Ramsay: "No problem there."

Ms. Ramsay walked away.  McIntire looked at David.

McIntire: "How much more to you have to do, David?

David: "Uh, well, that would be: nothing."

McIntire: "Nothing?  Really?"

David: "Yep.  Every chore on that clipboard is finished.  All you have have to do tonight and tomorrow morning is give out the refilled prescriptions when people come to pick them up."

McIntire: "Jeiz.  We pay you to make my job easier, not to make me look bad."

David and McIntire share a chuckle.

"All right, David, it's almost 6.  Why don't you go on home?"

David: "Oh, I have no problem  staying here to help out."

McIntire: "No, no, you've done plenty for today.  Besides, you've already put in your 8 hours and the store can't afford to pay you overtime.  So, I'll see you tomorrow morning around 10?"

David smiled as he unbuttoned his blue lab coat.

David: "Yes, you will."

David took his blue lab coat off and hung it on a hook by the pharmacy door.  David walked out of the pharmacy and looked at McIntire.

            "Good night, Mr. McIntire."

McIntire: "Good night, David."

David walked passed the checkout counters.  A young dark-aired girl in her mid-20's, standing by one of the checkout counters, waves and said: "Goodnight, David."  David looked at the girl and saw that it was one of the cashiers: Audrey Shields.  David waved back and said: "Goodnight, Audrey."  David, then went out the front door of the Walgreens.  Meanwhile, another co-worker, a blonde-haired 47-year-old woman, named: Marjory "Marj" Wedgeworth was standing outside smoking cigarette and saw David walk out of Walgreens.

Marj: "Hey David?"

David looked and saw Marj.

          "Are you off now?"

David: "Yeah, I got off just now."

Marj: ""Are you going straight home?"

David: "Yeah."

Marj: "Need a ride?"

David: "Oh no, I couldn't impose.  I can take the bus."

Maj put out her cigarette.

Maj: "Nonsense.  It's only a 10-minute drive from here."

David: "Well...  Okay, thank you."

Marj: "No problem.  Let's go."

David and Marj get in her car, leave the parking lot, and drive away.

Jack McGee was sitting at his desk, typing an article on the IBM Personal Computer.  He was finishing the last paragraph when Billy walked in.

Billy: "Mister McGee?"

Jack: "Yeah, Billy."

Billy: "Are you busy?"

Jack: "Well, I am almost finished with this article.  After I turn it in to Mark, I was planning on stepping out for lunch."

Billy: "Oh.  The reason I asked is because I think I have a really good human interest story that will sell a lot of papers for the Register."

Jack: "That's great.  You've got an hour or so before you go to lunch.  You can go to your desk and start writing it right now."

Billy: "Well, I don't exactly have the story yet."

Jack looked at Billy.

Jack: "What's that suppose to mean?"

Billy: "Well, you see, there's this woman who's lived a very interesting life.  Just what she's told me alone makes her life interesting."

Jack: "So, what you're saying is: you haven't even interviewed her yet."

Billy: "Well, no.  I thought I'd run the idea passed you first."

Jack: "Look, Billy, I know you're just an intern.  But, as a journalist, you need to start trusting your own instincts.  When you're doing a human interest story, the first you need to ask yourself is: 'Would this story interest me'?  If so, then pursue it."

Billy: "Oh, that makes sense."

Jack: "So?"

Billy: "So what?"

Jack: "Does it interest you?"

Billy: "Oh right.  Yeah, it does.  So I should pursue it."

Jack: "Yes, you should."

Billy: "Okay.  Thanks, Mister McGee.  I'll be back."

Billy walked out of the office area, through the hallway, and out of the building.  Jack sood up from his chair and put his suit on.

Jack: "Thank God for lunch hours."

Jack walked out of the office area.

Outside Walgreens, in the parking lot, sat two boys of around 18 or 19 years of age, sitting in a white 1980 Audi Quattro.  The temperature was a humid 82° and staying steady.  While sitting in that hot car, the two boys sat and conversed.

Travis: "There it is, Dwayne.  This is the place.  This is where we're going to get the stuff that will make a lot of street-people happy and make our fortune.  And that fortune is what's going to get us out of here."

Dwayne looked at his watch."

Dwayne: "Hey, at this exact moment, the sun is going to set in seven hours exactly."

Travis: "Oh brother, Dwayne.  What is it with you and sunsets?"

Dwayne: "Hey, I like'um, okay?  They make me feel at peace, you know?"

Travis: "Yeah, well, you're gonna feel even more at peace with prettier sunsets after we move to the south."

Dwayne: "Yeah, how about California?"

Travis: "California?  That's west, not south."

Dwayne: "Yeah, but the weather's great out there."

Travis: "It's also the third most expensive sate to live in.  I thinking more like 'Florida'."

Dwayne: "Oh please, Florida isn't expensive to live in?"

Travis: "Yes, it's expensive, but not like California or Hawaii.  Florida came in as the 37th most expensive sate to live in.  Besides, it'll take us longer to get there by car.  Think of it...  Warm climate.  Beaches.  Sun bunnies.  No more that crap we call snow.  Once we have that hundred grand in our hot little hands, we head south.  It's almost 1,200 miles.  We'd be there in 12 to 24 hours."

Dwayne: "And California is farther?"

Travis: "Well, yeah.  Do you know where we'd end up if we went almost 1,200 west, instead of south?"

Dwayne : "No."

Travis: "A place called: Parachute, Colorado.  And do you know what Colorado has?"

Dwayne: "No."

Travis: "Snow!  Lots and lots of snow.  We''ll be near the Rock Mountains, which will make the winters even colder.  We may as well stay here.  And not spending another winter in this place, freezing my butt off.""

Dwayne: "Okay, Florida it is then.  Now what's your plan?"

Travis: "Okay, there are those two men in the pharmacy.  One of them leaves around six.  If he comes out the back door, we'll be able to grab him, take him back to the pharmacy where no one will even see us.  We hold them up and force them to give us the pharmaceutical drugs they have.  And we'll nice and quiet while doing all this.  Once we've got everything, we'll go out the back door.  Nobody but those two guys will even know we were even there."

Dwayne: "That's if we don't kill them.  You know that as soon as we leave, they're gonna call the police and have an APB out on us."

Travis: "Hey, we won't have to kill anybody if they don't see our faces.  We'll wear masks.  It'll be Halloween in month.  It won'look weird.  And if they can't see our faces, they won't be able to identify us, either, even if they DO call the police."

Dwayne : "They could still get a license plate number as we're driving away or something."

Travis: "Oh dude, you really disappoint me sometimes.  My dad is a Chemistry professor.  I have access to chloroform."

Dwayne: "Chloroform""

Travis: "Yeah, it's an anesthetic that causes physical insensibility."

Dwayne: "How does it work?"

Travis "You put the chloroform on rag.  You take the rag, with the chloroform on it, put against the person's mouth and nose.  Momentarily, the person goes unconscious."

Dwayne : "For how long?"

Travis "Depends on the height and weight of the person.  It would take about 15 to 30 minutes to regain consciousness.  By then, the  two of us will be long gone.  Nobody will know we were there, except for the guys in the pharmacy.  And they won't be able to identify us once they do wake up."

Dwayne: "And it won't kill them?"

Travis: "Not if we don't overdo it.  It will simply incapacity the person by paralyzing the nervous system temporarily and has no known side effects.  We'll be able to do all of this without killing anybody."

Dwayne : "Good...  You really think Drexel will pay top-dollar for this?"

Travis: "Without a doubt.  This is some over-the-counter remedy or some immolation street-drug.  No, no, this is pharmaceutical drugs; drugs that can be prescribed to someone.  That's the 'good stuff'.  On the streets, you can get better than that.  I talkin' 'money packed with stacks of  100-dollar-bills' kind of stuff.  And Drexel knows it."

Dwayne: "So we just wait?"

Travis: "The best things come to those who wait, right?"

Dwayne: "Guess so."

Dwayne and Travis stare at the building, anticipating there plan to go into action soon.  Meanwhile, inside Walgreens, David was working inside the pharmacy, waiting for McIntire to come in at 1 p.m.  It was 11:59 a.m. and almost time for the News at Noon.  There were two small televisions that hung on a wall on both sides of the store.  A Commercial was on before the news.

Commercial
...  [Female Voice]: "...  I graduated from college before I was twenty and my jeans are just as smart.  They''re Sergio Valente.".. [Jingle]: Sergio Valente [Male Voice]:: "Now at Gimbels."

lMale Vince] : "Welcome to WCIU News at Noon with Veronica Roberts.. ",  A young news anchorwoman in her early 30's, with dark hair and brown eye, dressed in business suit, appeared on the television screen.
"Hello, and welcome to our News at Noon, I'm Veronica Roberts.  At the top of the new today, doctors are still baffled as to the cause of a tragic death of a young girl earlier today.  12-year-old Mary Kellerman of Elk Grove Village woke up at dawn with a sore throat and a runny nose.  Her parents gave her two Extra Strength Tylenol and sent her back to bed.  When they awoke at 7 a.m., they found Mary lying on the bathroom floor, barely breathing.  They rushed her to the hospital, but sadly, she was pronounced dead at 10 a.m.  Although it is strange for a perfectly healthy 12-year-old girl to die suddenly, so far, the doctors do not suspect anything foul play at this point.  It is presumed that Mary's cause of death was a unilateral stroke.  We'll tell more as the story as it  unfolds.  In other news, American actressMabel Albertson dies of Alzheimer's disease at the age of 81... "
Marj walked up to the window of the pharmacy while David was watching the news.

Marj  "That is so tragic, isn't it?  I mean, to die that young."

David: "I know.  Her parents must be devastated."

Marj: "I know I would be.  I hope there's nothing going around that caused that."

David: "No, I don't think so."

Marj: "Have you ever heard of a case like that?"

David: "Dying suddenly after the symptoms of a cold?  No.  There must have been something congenital that they won't find out until a pathologist looks into the case."

Marj: "I hope so.  McIntire is due to come in within an hour, right?"

David: "Yeah, the usual 1:00 p.m."

Marj: "Maybe we  can ask him if HE'S heard of any cases like that."

In a somber manner, David said:

David: "Yeah, maybe."

Marj: "I've gotta get back to work.  I'll talk with you later."

David: "See ya later."

Marj walked away and went to her won work space.  David continued to run the pharmacy, even after McIntire showed up for work at 1:00 p.m.  The two of them worked and talked various things for the next five hours.  The day, in Walgreens at least, went as usual.  Before they knew it, was a cuple of minutes before 6:00 p.m.

McIntire: "Well, David, thank you for your help once again.  You're a real asset around this place."

David began unbuttoning his blue lab coat.

David: "Well, I'm glad I could help."

McIntire: "Heck, I can see you running this place when I retire."

David chuckled as he took off his blue lab coat and hung it on a hook.

David: "Well, let's hope that's not anytime soon."

McIntire: "Oh, uh, I do need to warn you about our new security guard named: Gerard.  He's a former cop and, evidently, still  thinks  force.  He's rather abrupt with people, so just be on the look-out."

David: "All right...  I'll see ya tomorrow."

McIntire: "See ya tomorrow."

David walked out of the pharmacy and closed the door behind him.  He walked halfway to the front door when the 6:00 News comes on.

[Male Voice]: "Welcome to WCIU News at Six with Veronica Roberts.. ",  A young news anchorwoman in her early 30's, with dark hair and brown eye, dressed in business suit, appeared on the television screen.
"Hello, and welcome to our News at Noon, I'm Veronica Roberts.  At the top of the new this evening, more unexplained death with similar symptoms continues to plague Chicago.  27-year-old Adam Janas of Arlington Heights had chest and shoulder pain, took two Extra Strength Tylenol, and lies down.  A few minutes later, his wife went to speak to him about something, went to get his attention, and discovered that he was not moving, barely breathing, and could not wake him up.  When the paramedics arrived, Adam was alive in a deep comatose state, completely unresponsive. they managed to keep his heart going manually until they arrived at the hospital.  Doctor Thomas Kim found it strange that healthy 27-year-old man to come to the hospital and not being able to keep him alive with modern hospital technology. They could make it to where he was able to breath on his own and later died in the Emergency Room at Northwest Community Hospital.  Adam had eight members of his family member around his hospital bed mourning for him.. The shocked eight family members came together at Adam's house to comfort each other and Adam's wife.  Stricken with headaches, 25-year--old Stanley Janus, brother of Adam Janus, and Stanley's new bride, 19-year-old Teresa Tarasewicz-Janus went in search of a remedy from Adam's bathroom cabinet.  Joseph Janus said Stanley started to go outside for a cigarette, then collapsed.  Moments later, Teresa passed out as well.  Because the cause was unknown, other family members were put under observation in a hospital.  The six surviving siblings said they had taken plain aspirin for their pain.  Stanley and Teresa, on the other hand, had to taken Extra Strength Tylenol.  The family saw that something was wrong with them as well, so they were rushed back to the same hospital Adam had died at earlier.  By pure luck, the doctor who was in charge of their care was the same doctor who was in charge of Adam Junus. Doctor Kim believes there is a common denominator to their sudden illnesses. So far, the doctor suspects that it is either something they ate or perhaps Carbon Monoxide.  The two are currently on life-support, but whether their conditions will improve is still uncertain...  In other news, can you believe it?  It was 100 years ago this evening that the very first night football game played.  The location?  It was played in Mansfield Pennsylvania..."
As David tuned out the news, he had an unpleasant gut feeling.  David very slowly turned his head to the left, where all of the over-the-counter pan-killers were.  Be began having flashbacks over what Veronica Roberts reported, trying to connect the dots.

eNews at Noon:

In the background for effect, the Halloween movie Theme Song (i.e. Michael Myers Song)  played faintly (Sample: https://youtu.be/dfBHEIANFSA). David glared as he very slowly began walked down the aisle. His instincts were strong.  He a strong feeling that he was about to put two and two together.  After 20 seconds or so, David reached the place, on his left side, where the Extra Strength Tylenol was stocked.  David looked around the area, then very slowly took one of the Extra Strength Tylenols off the self and looked at it for a few seconds.  He opened the box the contain the bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol.  He placed the box in the shelf and looked at the bottle.  David noticed it bared the classification number: MC2880.  Again, David looked around to see if anyone was watching him, but he didn't see anyone.  David, then, slowly removed the cap from the bottle and placed it on the shelf.  Then, he slowly took the cotton out of the bottle and placed the bottle up to his nose, so he could smell the inside of the bottle.  Once he did, David slightly flinched.  It was an all too familiar smell.  His eyes widened.  "My God," he whispered, "Potassium Cyanide."  David stood stunned for a second or two.  Then, he quickly put the cotton back in the bottle, put the cap back on the bottle, put the bottle back into the box, and began to run toward the cash registers.  Suddenly, a man in a security guard's uniform stepped out from behind the corner, stuck his nightstick out in front of him, and stopped David at the end of the aisle  The Michael Myers Song abruptly stopped..

Gerard: "Excuse me there, Mister...  Where do you think you're going with that?"

David: "Sir, please, I need to purchase this immediately.  It's an emergency."

Gerard: "An emergency, huh?"

David:"Yes."

Gerard: "You got an emergency headache?"

David: "No"

Gerard: "Dying grandmother at home?"

David: "No, it's not like that."

Gerard: "You what I find odd is: when a grown man runs down an aisle to buy Tylenol after he sneaks it off the shelf, looking around for people."

David: "What?"

Gerard: "I saw what you were doing.  I was watching you."

David: "Sir, I know what it looked like"

Gerard: "What it looked like?  Mister, I know what I saw."

David: "Sirit's very important that I get this to the authorities.  These capsules ."

Gerard, then, took his nightstick and struck David's right hand, causing him to drop the Tylenol.  He yelled out in pain.  All of the cashiers on duty were looking to see what the commotion was.

Gerard: " The only authority figure you have to worry about right now is ME."

Gerard leaned over and picked up the Tylenol, as David was holding his hand, trying to bare the pain.  Gerard presented the Tylenol to David.

"And THIS is all the proof I need to have the police take you downtwon and book ya.  Fingerprints and all are on this box."

Gerard grabbed David by his left arm, and headed toward the storeroom.  David's hand was throbbing from the pain, causing him to sweat.

"Let's take a little trip to my office, shall we?"

Gerard pushed David through the double-doors and into the storeroom, which was on the other side of the store (opposite the pharmacy).  Gerard took his walkie talkie from his utility belt.

"Now, I'm calling this in.  Don't even think about running away.  The police will also get you for resisting arrest."

David began to regain his composure enough to speak.

David: "Please, sir, this  is a misunderstanding.  I was ."

Gerard: "I told you to shut up!"

Gerard stuck David with his nightstick, again, in his left cheek.  David yelled out in even more pain and fell to the floor on his stomach.

"And don't keep patronizing me with that 'sir' crap!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNc9XxdwqaM

The pain David was feeling became more exceedingly excruciating and intense.  He was sweating profusely.  David's anger elicited by the pain had escalated to manic frenzy and triggered his metamorphosis.. David's eyes became white and then a pale green.  Gerard turned his back to David as he was about to talk on his walkie talkie, believing that David was no longer a threat.

"Braker 1.5, Braker, 1- 5, do you copy?  Over."

Braker 1-5: "That's a 10-4, Gerard.  What's happenin'?"

Gerard: "I have a 43-22 out here at Store #9438.  Male, Caucasian, looks to be in his mid-40's..."

Meanwhile, David's shirt begins to rip because hewais now growing larger and larger, and his muscles begin to expand.  At the same time, his skin pigmentation changed from a healthy peach color to gray and then to a full out green.  The sides of his pants split partway and the shoes he was wearing ripped off of his feet.  He was now the Hulk.

Braker 1-5: "All right, Gerard, we'll get ya some back-up as soon as possible.  Over."

Gerard: "Over and Out."

By now, the Hulk had slowly risen, gritting its teeth, and quietly growling.  Gerard  put down his walkie talkie and turned around to look at and talk to David.

Gerard: "All right, you "

Gerard flinched and his eyes widened when he saw the Hulk.  The Hulk flexed his muscles let out a loud roar.  In a panic, Gerard tried to hit the Hulk with his nightstick.  When he swung, the Hulk grabbed the nightstick and jerked it out of Gerard's hand.  The Hulk looked at it angrily for a few seconds, then, with both hands, broke the nightstick in two and thew it across the room on his right side.  Gerard stood frozen, wondering where the Hulk came from.  While growling, the Hulk walked slowly toward Gerard and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt.  Frightened, Gerald remained frozen.  The Hulk, then, thew him through the double-doors, out of the storeroom.  He landed on the floor and slid clear across the other side.  Then, the Hulk quickly came through the double-doors, flexed his muscles, and let out another loud roar.  He startled everyone who was in the drug store at the time.  The Hulk slowly walked toward Gerard, once again, gritting his teeth, and growling.  Gerard had no intention of staying at that scene.  He quickly got up off the floor and ran out the front door of the drug store.  The Hulk slowly walked down the isle of the over-the-counter medicines.  He looked at all of them, including the Extra Strength Tylenol.  Looking at all of them began to make him angrier.  He took his right hand and pushed the entire shelf over.  He, then, let out another roar.  Then, the Hulk heard faint police sirens from a distance.  The Hulk ran through the front door of the drug store, through the parking lot, and down the street where he seemed to disappear.  Many people from the drug store watched as the Hulk ran down the street, with astonishment.

It was now over three hours after sunset.  The temperature had dropped to about 70°.  It is now dark on a red light district of Chicago.  The mixture of rays of red, white, blue, green, and yellow surrounded the area.  A bunch of screams and curse words were in the distance.  After hours of running, the Hulk was walking a long the sidewalk.  He looked around aimlessly.  He saw fights going on through window.  Men were beating woman and yelling.  "Why do you to this to me, huh?"  The women would scream while the men would say: "Shut upYou hear me?!  SHUT UP!"  The Hulk saw a car drive by playing loud music inside.  The Hulk came increasingly tired.  He turned to his right and saw a dark alley.  As the Hulk started down the dark alley, there didn't appear to be any people there.  When he walked halfway down the alley, he decided to sit down against a brick wall and rest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcltBxknkHY

At that point, the Hulk felt tired and safe.  As he began to relax, the one-minute process of morphing back to David began.  Within that minute, his skin pigment goes from green, to gay, and back to a healthy peach color.  He was now back to human form.  He was David again.

David put his hands over his face and slid them down ever so softly.  He surveyed his surroundings.  He saw that it was dark, after sunset.  David heard a police car running its sirens drove by on the street on his left side.  He looked to his left, realizing he was in a dark alley between buildings, and saw the rays of red, white, blue, green, and yellow surrounded the area.  A bunch of screams and curse words were in the distance.  Also, in the distance, he heard the song: "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band (five minutes and 40 seconds into the song).  His olfactory senses picked up the conglomerate and faint scent of gasoline, ammonia, burning garbage, and skunk.  It was then that David was in a part of town that was slummy and where drug use was high.  After David's assessment of his surrounding were ascertained, David slowly stood up.   He began to walk to his left, where all of the action seemed to be.  David became wary of the environment he was in.  He slowly stepped out onto the sidewalk, sing all the shady activity.  Suddenly two dramatically underweight young girl, appearing to be in their teens, walked up to David.

Lacy: "Hey, baby."

Macy: "You need a date this evening?"

David: "Uhm, what?"

Lacy: "I'm Lacy."

Macy: "And I'm Macy."

Lacy: "You can have one of us."

Macy: "Or you can have both of us."

At this point, David realized that the two girls were under-aged street walkers asking him to be one of their johns.

Lacy: "Well, it looks like your investment didn't pay off."

David: "What are you talking about?"

Macy: "It looks like you lost your shirt."

Both of the girls laugh hysterically.  David could see that they were stoned on some type of drug, but
acted oblivious to it.

David: "Right, yeahThat's uh that's that's clever...  Uhm, do either of you two have a place?"

The girls began to stop laughing.

Lacy: "Well, of course, babyWe both do."

Macy: "We both live together right upstairs."

David: "Oh."

Lacy: "Now, if you want either one of us, it'll be 200."

Macy: "And if you want both of us sort of a ménage à trois it'l be 400."

David looked around for a couple of seconds.

David: "How much to use your phone?"

The girl looked at each other for a second, then simultaneously, the two girls said:

Lacy and Macy: "What????"

David hung up the phone.  By this time he was wearing a hooded pink sweatshirts with white zippers. and a white stripes going from the shoulders to the wrist.  He is also wear ladies shoes with pink shoe strings.  David almost left when the two girls intervened.

Lacy: "Excuse me, mister, but were you serious?"

David: "Serious?"

Macy: "About the Extra Strength Tylenol being poisoned?"

David: "Yes, very serious.  If you have a bottle of Tylenol, don't just assume they are safe to take.  Assume that they are poisoned and either take it to the police, a hospital, or just throw it away.

Lacy: "Woe, this is huge."

Macy: "Yeah, thanks for the warning."

David: "Yo're very welcomeAnd thank YOU for the sweat shirt and shoesThey're a little small, but they'll doYou girls be safe, okay?"

Simultaneously, the two girls say:

Lacy and Macy: "We will."

David closed the door behind him.  He walked down the four flights of stairs and out onto the sidewalk  The stench of a mixture drugs filled the air.  Police sirens screamed through the streets at a far distance.  At a closer distance, he could music baring, the song: "Hollywood Nights" by Bob Seger (3 minutes and 5 seconds into the song) played.  David walked east on West 21st Street, listening and watching the nocturnal violence.    As David walked further and further away, the song overcame the scene(as if it were part of the show., until the rest  the rest of the song ended.  . . . Jack McGee sat at his desk, writing and reviewing totes he had taken the last 24 hours.  Mark Roberts walked up to Jack's desk with the morning's edition in his hands.

Mark: "Jack, this is great stuffExcellent work on both the story of the Tylenol killings AND the HulkHow in the world did you figure out that the Police's theory on Cyanide in the Tylenol was true?.

Jack: "I got an anonymous tip last night, after I was finished with the second-page Hulk story."

Mark: "You don't know who it was?"

Jack: "No, it was just some man who said he knew a lot about pharmaceuticals or something."

Mark: "Maybe your tip works at one of the drug stores in town."

Jack: I've already been to the Walgreets on Michigan Avenue where the Hulk was spottedThey ones that saw the Hulk confirmed the damage he did in the store and said they have new-hires in the store all the time.  I was thinking I could get some other interviews  before lunch."

Mark: "GreatKeep it up, Jack."

As Mark walked away from Jack's desk, he turned and said:

"I told you the Hulk could be closer than you think."

Mark proceeded to walk away.  Jack, then, stood up, put on his suit jacket and quietly said:

Jack: "Yeah, I know, MarkI know."

Billy, then, waled up to Jack's desk to talk to Jack.

Billy: "Boy, this has a frantic 24 hours, huh?"

Jack: "It sure hasCan I help you, Billy?"

Billy: "Oh, uh, I was just wondering what your plans were for today."

Jack: "I'm gonna be doing interviews for the rest of the day."

Billy: "Oh, do you need any helpI could come along for the experience."

Jack: "If I'm done and back here by day's end, I willOtherwise, leave it on my desk and I'll read over it tomorrow before you hand it into Mark."

Billy: "What do I do in the meantime?"

Jack: "Read over your article againSee if it interests youLook for possible leads in a human interest story you could write for next weekDo your research on those possible leadsTake the initiative, BillyAs a reporter, you don't wait for the stories to come to youYou go to the stories. 11:56 a.m. (CDT)

The reporters and police that once swarmed the store were gone and everyone was going back to their usual business.  David came walking through the parking lot on the front side of the building.  By now, he was wearing his regular clothes, since he had been home and able to change clothes.    David saw Marj through the front door and quietly entered the store.  David, then, walked up to Marj.

David: "Marj?"

Marj quickly looked at David.

Marj: "DavidMy God, where have been?  We've all been worried since you disappeared last night Are you okay?"

David: "Yes, I'm fineIt's a long story."

Marj: "This place has been in total chaosFirst, that 'green thing', then this whole Tylenol scare.  Have you heard about it yet?"

David: "Yes, I haveHas anything been done about it?"

Marj: "Lot of stuffWe've done our part and cleaned took all of our over-the-counter pain relievers off the shelves."

David: "Okay, goodListen, Marj, I know this is short-notice, but  ."
I have to leave Chicago tonight."

Marj looked at David with surprise and curiosity.

Marj: "When?"

David: "After my shift is overI'm sorry, I can't be here when the media and police come back around hereI have my reasons."

Marj: "OhDoes it have anything to do with this Tylenol scare?""

David: "Well,it doesn't help matters any."

Marj: "OhI'm going to be sorry to see ya goAre you going to be all right?"

David: "Ill be fine."

Marj: "Have you told McIntire yet?"

David: "No, I'll tell him when he reports in for his shift."

At that time, the News at Noon came on and both Marj and David began to watch it.

[all Voice]: "Welcome to WCIU News at Noon with Veronica Roberts.. ",...[Female Anchorwoman appeared]: Voice]:.  Hello, and welcome to our News at Noon, I'm Veronica Roberts.  "
"At the top of the news today, it has been confirmed that Extra strength Tylenol capsules are laced with CyanideUnfortunately, more live have been taken as a result25-year-old Stanley Janus, brother of Adam Janus, died at 8:15 p.m last night of cyanide poisoning   Stanley's brother Adam died in the Emergency Room at Northwest Community Hospital earlier in the dayStanley's wifeTeresa, is still on life support, but the prognosis does not look goodHowever, we've just received word that it is too late for, at least, two more victims.  27-year-old Mary Reiner of Winfield , who had given birth to her fourth child a week ago, took two Extra Strength Tylenol yesterdayAlso, 35-year-old Mary McFarland of Elmhurst, was at work in a store when she complained of a bad headache.  She went in the back room of the store to take some Extra Strength TylenolAfter taking the pills, both collapsed right awayThey were both rushed to different hospitals.  However, Mary McFarland was pronounced dead around 3:15 this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and Mary Reiner was pronounced dead at 9:30 this morning at Central DuPage Hospital in WinfieldAnother possible victim,a 35-year-old fight attendant for United Airlines, Paula Prince of Chicago has not been accounted for since late last nightShe flew into Chicago's O'hare Airport from Las Vegas.  So far, she had failed to meet her sister for dinner and has not been answering her telephone. She was last seen walking into a Walgreens.  Whether she took any Extra Strength Tylenol is yet to be determinedLuckily a nurse employed at Northwestern Community Hospital named, Helen Jensen believed that there may have been a link between the three Janus family members' sudden illness and the Extra Strength Tylenol capsulesDoctor Thomas Kim,who treated both Adam and Stanley Jannus, sent her and some others to Adam Janus' house to have a look around to see if they could find anything suspectNurse Jensen discovered that their were only six pills missing from the Extra Strength Tylenol bottleThey brought the capsules to the doctorDoctor Kim knew that the symptoms were completely wrong for a standard overdose, especially since their were only six pills missing from the bottleThe doctor told the Cook County Medical Examiner to look into the Extra Strength Tylenol capsulesIn our last interview, the doctor is seriously considering poisoning is the cause of these sudden illnessesIn fact, cyanide in particular has crossed his mind. After a full investigation, as of one o'clock this morning, it has been confirmed that there was cyanide in the capsules of Mary Kellerman and three of the Janus family, after an investigator with the Cook County Medical Examiner's officer, Nick Pishos, smelled the inside of the Tylenol bottlesThus, there is now a connection between the three Janus family victims and Mary Kellerman's deathAll four victims had taken Extra Strength TylenolAfter testing the blood of all four victims,   All of them back conclusively that their were high levels cyanide.  In fact, they contained 10,000 times the lethal doseWe'll have more on this story as it unfolds.
In other news, after four years, the Hulk has made his way back to ChicagoHe did damages to the Walgreen's on Michigan Avenue and attacked a security guardThe Hulk was last seen between 1ith and 21st streetThis 'John Doe', who becomes the Hulk, is still at large'John Doe' remaining in the city is purely speculation.  The National Register is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of the HulkIf you have any information leading to this capture of 'John Doe'— a.k.a. the Hulk  please call the Chicago Police Department at (312) 555-6000."
David:and Marj stopped paying attention to the TV and looked at each other.

Marj: "This is becoming a nightmareWhat sick individual would do something like this?"

David: "I have no ideaIt's just good that we found out what was causing the deaths before anymore happened...  Look, I'm going to go open the pharmacy.  If you happen to come across a reporter named: McGee, please, don't let him know where I am, okay?"

Marj: "Sure, DavidWhatever I can do to help."

David: "The less he knows about me, the better."

Marj: "Okay."

David: "Thank you."

David walked away, toward the pharmacy to open it for the day.

Jack McGee was walking alongside Mark Roberts having a conversation

Jack: "I'm telling ya, Mark, there's a connection 'John Den' and the anonymous tip I received last nightI think HE was the one who called me."

Mark: "WhyBecause the Hulk happens to be in town again?"

Jack: "Look, we know that 'John Doe' has knowledge of medicineAnd the two girls I talk to today said that when they found him, he wasn't wearing any shoes or a shirtThat's within three hours after the the Hulk was spotted.  The Hulk was seen at the Walgreen's on Michigan Avenue 'John Doe' was obviously there last nightWe don't know if he was a customer or an employee, but he was there.  The people who were working there last night must know somethingAnd I think 'John Doe' knows more about this Tylenol scare than he's letting on."

Billy came running up from behind, trying to get Jack McGee's attention.

Billy: "Mister McGee, I've got that "

Jack: "Just a moment, BillyWe're in the middle of something important right now."

Mark: "Do you have any other sources you could check out who could even tell you about the Hulk?"

Jack: "Well, yeahThere's the guard that the Hulk attacked him.  Now certainly there must be something that HE could tell me about last night."

Mark: "All right, JackYou've got until day's end and not a minute longer."

Jack: "Thank you, Mark."

Billy: "Mister McGeecan you proofread my article now?"

Jack: "I'm a little busy right now, Billy."

All three men suddenly stopped walking.

Mark: "Jack, proofread his articleBilly has to hand it in to me by tomorrow morning and he is the intern undergoing training under YOUR supervisionAfter you approve it, I read it to see if I approve itThat's what editors are forHelp Billy before you leave."

Mark walked away from Jack and Billy.

Billy " PleaseI think it will be an interesting article."

Jack stood in silence for a couple of seconds, then nodded.

Jack: "Okay, let's go back to my desk."

Both Jack and Billy walked toward Jack's desk.

Gerard: "Yes?"

Jack: "I'm looking for a by the name of Gerard."

Gerard: "That's meWho are you?"

Jack: "I'm Jack McGee from the National RegisterI was hoping I could come in and ask you a few questions."

Gerard: "Nobody I know, including myselfwants to quoted in that rag that you work forI don't any more about the Tylenol scare other than what I've seen on the news."

Jack: "Actually, I was wanting to ask you about the Hulk."

Gerard: "The what?"

Jack: "The HulkThat's the large green creature that you and some of your co-workers saw last night."

Gerard:  "I could go to newspapers that have a better repution with a story like that."

Jack: "You know, my paper is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the Hulk's
capture."

Gerard's interest began to build.

Gerard: "Really?"

Jack: "That's right...  Now, you told other reporters that he attacked you?"

Gerard: "He sure didI tried to use my nightstick to fight him off, but he grabbed it and broke it in half like it was a twigThen, he grabbed me and threw me clear across the other side of the store."

Jack: "Yes, the Hulk is very strong."

Gerard: "Ten thousand buck, you say?"

Jack: "That's right."

Gerard: "Tax-free?"

Jack: "Tax-free."

Gerard: "And all I have to do is help you capture this beast?"

Jack: "That's right."

Gerard: "I see...  Uhm, come on inWe can discuss the details over coffee."

Jack: "That would be niceThank you."

Jack walked into the house.  Then, Gerard, beaming about the $10,000 reward money, closed the door.  From that point on, Gerard told Jack every detail about the night before.

Walgreens - Store #9438
30 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, Illinois  60602
Thursday, September 30, 1982
5:41 p.m. (CDT)

Travis and Dwayne were seated in their car, waiting to make their move.

Travis: "Well, it's almost time..  Are you ready?"

Dwayne: "As ready as I'll ever be."

Travis: "Now remember: WE call the shots, not them."

Dwayne: "Right!"

Travis: "With any luck, we shouldn't be in there no more than 10 minutes, tops."

Dwayne: "The sooner, the better."

Travis: "Ready to put your mask on?"

Dwayne: "YeahReady."

Dwayne and Travis put their masks on.

Dwayne: "I've never worn a mask this long before Halloween."

Travis: "Well, let's go make our fortune."

Dwayne and Travis got out of the car and headed toward the back door of the store (near the pharmacy), so they could wait on someone to come out that door and force them into the pharmacy.

Meanwhile, in the pharmacy, David and McIntire are working.  However there was not much to do, since David did about two or three days of work.

McIntire: "David, you can just leave nowIt's a slow night and your shift is almost over anyway."

David: "Are you sure?"

McIntire: "Yeah, I'll be all right from hereYou've already done more than enough and I appreciate that."

David and McIntire shook hands.
"It's been a pleasure working with you, David."
David: "It's been a pleasure working with you."

McIntire: "Are you sure there's nothing I can do for you?"

David: "Well, there may be a lot of people who may ask about me.,particularly a report by the name of McGeeIf you wouldn't mind: the less they know, the better."

McIntire: "Mum's the word."

David: "Thank you."

David took his blue lab coat off and hung it on a hook.

McIntire: You be safe out there."

David: "I willYou be good to yourself."

McIntire: "I will."

And with those trading of sentiment, David, quietly opened and closed or behind him.  As he walked down the three steps, leading to the pharmacy\\\\David was briefly relieved  He thought to himself:"All I have to do is back to my apartment, retrieve my belongings, and I will quickly get out of dodge.."  As David turned right at the bottom of the stairs,Dav came to a complete stop.  His eyes widened.  David had an "oh no moment."  He was shock to see Jack McGee and Gerard coming through the front door of the store.  David quickly backed up and hid in the darkness.  He knew that there was no way he was going to be able to go out that front door.  Jack McGee and Gerard walked over to the customer service desk, where Marj was.

Marj: "May I help you?"

Jack: "Missus Marjory\Wedgeworth?"

Marj looked down at her employment badge that wasclipped to her shirt.  After a second or two, Marj looked back up and said sarcastically

Marj: "Good guessWhat can I do for ya?"

Jack: "I'm Jack McGee from The National RegisterI was wondering if I could ask you a few
questions."

Marj: "About what?"

While Jack and Gerard had their backs turned at the customer service counter, David realized that the only way to get out of there would be to go out the back door.  David quietly and quickly walked to the back door.  But the opening of the back door did not spell out freedom for David.  Instead, it was the opening of a new can of warms.  Once David opened the back door, there stood the two young men with pistols and warring masked.  David shocked, yet again, stopped immediately.  Between the weapons and the masks, David knew that the two young men were there to rob the store.  At first, David was so shocked, he was at a loss  for words.

Travis:  "Get back!"

As the two young men pointed their pistols at him, David took a couple steps back.

             "Get back inside!"

David, then, took a few more steps back while looking inside the store, hoping he wouldn't be seen.

             "Now!"

David took a few more steps back, until he had reached the steps and door to the pharmacy.  David knew that such a robbery would attract attention, resulting in him being seen, particular ly Jack McGee.

David: "Uh, listen, guys,  "

Travis: "Shut upPut those hands where I can see them."

David quickly put his hands in the air.

Travis: "Get in the pharmacy."

David looked toward the front of the store, seeing that Jack and Gerard, seeing that they still had  their backs turned.  But the standing still was making Travis even angrier and his demeanor changed.

Travis: "Get in the pharmacy."

David walked up the steps to the pharmacy.  David opened the door while the two young men followed him in the pharmacy.  McIntire saw David and the two young men behind him.

McIntire: "DavidWhat's going on?"

The two young men pointed their pistols at McIntire.

Travis: "Hands up, Pops."

McIntire put his hands up immediately.

Dwayne: "Look, we have masks on so you can't identify usAs long as you both cooperate, we won't kill you."

Travis: "Don't make any promises you can't deliver."

Dwayne: "What?"

Travis pointed at David.

Travis "YouTurn around  and put your hands behind your back."

David did as he was told.  Dwayne took a set of toy handcuffs and cuffed David around his wrist.

McIntir: "What are thoseToy handcuffs?"

Travis: "Yeah, but I can assure you these aren't toy guns.  I don't think you'd want to find out the hard way."

Travis pointed at D:avid again.

"YouYou part is very simple  All you have to do is stand there while my friend watches you.  And no funny business."

David: "No funny business."

Travis: "And no heroics."

David: "No heroics."

Travis, then, points at Dwayne.

Travis: "Watch him."

Dwayne: "Sure."

Then, Travis turned to McIntire.

Travis: "All right, PopsYou're next."

McIntire: "What are you going to do with him?"

Travis: "HimSame thing to you if you do as your toldOnce we get what we want, we'll handcuff you, gag both of you, lay you on the floor, and leave as fast as we canBy the time anybody finds you, we'll be long gone.."

McIntire: "Impressive plan."

Travis: "We like it...  Now it's time to put that plan into actionWhat you're gonna do is take all the prescription-strength drug, particularly the ones that are worth hundreds of dollars, and put them all in a nice big bag for us to carry outOnce we bound and gag you guys, we'll prance out of here as free as you please."

McIntire: "What drugs do you want?"

Travis: "Come on, PopsDon't be coyUppers, downers, pain-killers; anything that would bring blissful feelings when they take them."

McIntire reluctantly used his key to open the cabnet of prescription drugs to fill a bag from the pharmacy. Meanwhile, back at the customer service counter, Jack McGee is still talking with Marj.

Jack: "Just a few more minutes is all that I ask."

By this time, Marj was getting pretty annoyed.

Marj: "Look, Mister McGee, I've told you everything I know about everything you asked.  There is a line forming behind you, customers are still waiting, and my shift is almost over."

Jack let's out a quiet sigh

Jack: "Could I, at least, interview some of the other employees?"

Marj: "As long as you're not bothering them the way you're bothering me, I don't care..  I can help the next person in line!"

Jack walked away casually yet frustrated.  Gerard walked up to Jack.

Gerard: "Did you get everything you needed?"

Jack: "Not nearly as much as I'd hoped."

Gerard: "HmhIf Marj doesn't know, then I don't know who would."

Jack: "Do ya mind if I browse around for a while?"

Gerard: "Of course notI have to start my shift anyway."

Gerard walked away as Jack began to browse.  Meanwhile, in the pharmacy, McIntire was almost done filling the bag of prescription drugs, while Dwayne was keeping an eye on David.  In a few minutes we will be out of her

Travis: "So far, so good, PopsIn a few minutes, we will be out of here and on to bigger and better."

McIntire: "Hmh hmh."

Travis: "You'll get over it, PopsHey, you'll have toYou will have a choice."

David began to peak out the side of the pharmacy window.  His eyes widened.  David saw Jack McGee coming from a distance toward the parmacy.  He flinched back to the corner of the parmacy, where he was.

Dwayne: "Hey, what's YOUR problem, pal:"

David: "Uhsomeone's coming."

Dwayne looked out the pharmacy window and also saw Jack McGee swalking toward the pharmacy from a distance, then looked back at David.

Dwayne: "So, get rid of him."

Uneasy without and without giving any thought to his words said:

David: "No."

Then, there was a moment of awkward silence.

Dwayne: "What did you just say to me?"

David: "I can't."

Dwayne: "Excuse me?"

David: "I can't."

Dwayne stepped one foot closer to David.

Dwayne: "Can't ?"

Dwayne poked David in the chest with his index finger.

               "or WON'T?"

David was growing increasingly nervous, so he could only say the first thing that came to mind

David: "I said: 'can't'."

Dwayne looked over at Travis.

Travis: "Just close the metal curtain so no on can see us."

Dwayne grabbed a handle and closed the metal curtain, just as Jack McGee was approaching it.

Jack: "Uh, excuse me,I "

Dwayne: "We're closedCome back tomorrow!"

Jack: "Look, I'm a reporter for the National RegisterI was hoping I could ask you a few question."

Dwayne and Travis whisper amonst themselves.

Travis: "PerfectAnother damn reporter."

Dwayne: "Should one of us go talk to him?"

Travis: "No way. He'll know we don't work here once he sees the masksAnd I'm not letting him see my face."

Dwayne: "If we don't open the metal curtain, it may arouse suspicion."

Jack: "Hello?"

Travis: "And if we do, he'll see that the pharmacy is being robbed and he'll a nice juicy story to take to the pressThe last thing we need is fully media coverage."

Dwayne: "So, what do we do?"

Jack: "Excuse me?"

Travis: "just keep saying we're closedWe need him so stay away from here long enough for us to get out of here."

Dwayne: "I said we're closed, mister.!  Come back tomorrow!"

At that point, Jack suspected that something was wrong.  He lefted the pharmacy area and went to where Gerard was stand.

Jack: "Gerard, something's going on in the pharmacyThey told they were closed, but I know they're not."

Gerard: "ClosedThe pharmacy isn't suppose to close for another 3 hours."

Jack: "I knowThat's why I think something shady is going on."

Gerard: "Okay, JackStay right hereI'm going to go check it out.  I'll call for a little back-up just in case foul play IS going on."

Gerard walked over to the pharmacy.  Even though Jack was told to stay put, as always, his curiosity got the better of him.  Meanwhile, inside the pharmacy, the bad of prescription drugs was full and the two young men were ready to leave.

Travis: "All right, PopsAll we have to do is cuff you and we are out of herePut your hands behind your back."

Suddenly, before Travis could cuff McIntire, the was a knowck at the door.

             "Were you expecting somebody?"

McIntire: "No, nobody."

Travis: "Ask who it is."

McIntire: "Who is it?"

Gerard: "It's Gerard, AmosCould you come out and talk with me for a minute?"

McIntire: "That's our security guard."

Travis: "Say: 'yes'."

McIntire: "Sure, I'll be out in a minute."

Travis: "Now look here, Pops: you do ANYTHING to tip this guy off, and you're both deadYou got it?"

McIntire: "I understandI'll try to be brief."

Travis: "You don't 'try' anything, PopsYou do it."

McIntire: "I'll be brief."

Travis: "BetterNow go get rid of him."

McIntire left the pharmacy, closed the door behind him, and walked down the 3 or 4 steps toward Gerard.  Unbeknownst to both of them, Jack hid behind a wall so he could listen in on their conversation.

Gerard: "How ya doing, Amos?"

McIntire: "Doing greatWhat can I do for ya?"

Gerard: "Well, I'm just wondering why you're closing so early?"

McIntire: "Well, technically, I'm not."

Gerard: :I didn't think soSo, what's with your metal curtains being closed?"

McIntire: "Well, you see, I go a little behind in refilling some prescriptions and I thought I could use time to catch up."

Gerard: "Oh.  Well, I can understand that."

McIntire: "Just give me 20 minutes or soOnce I'm caught up, I'll be back open and ready for business."

Gerard: "Twenty minutes, you say?"

McIntire: "Yeah, that should be enough time to "

Jack immediately walked over to McIntire and Gerard to interupt their conversation.

Jack: "Excuse me, GerardThis man's not telling the truth."

Gerard: "Jack, I told you to stay put."

Jack: "His story is inconsistent with what happened earlier.  A person with a different voice told that they were closed and to come back tomorrowWhy would he lie if there is nothing shady going on back there?"

Gerard: "Jack, I've got thisI have back up on the way, so let's just wait until they get here."

Meanwhile, inside the pharmacy, Dwayne and Travis were whispering to each other.

Dwayne: "Oh noNow we'll never get out of here."

Travis: "Oh, we'll get out of here, all right."

Dwayne: "Look, the security guard is out thereThe reporter's out therePlus, the police are on their wayThere's no way out of thisWhy don't we just forget it?"

Travis: "Hey, I'm got going to jailAnd I'm certainly not going to spend another winter in this frozen tundra of a cityI'll handle things from here."

Dwayne: "How?"

At that moment, Travis opened the pharmacy door.  Jack, McIntire, and Gerard looked up at Travis.

Travis: "All right, you guysGet in here...  Now."

Jack, McIntire, and Gerard stood frozen and silent, not knowing what to do or say.  Travis cleared his throat

"I'm not kiddingGet in here now."

One by one, McIntire, Gerard, and Jack walked into the pharmacy.  Travis left the door open behind him.  David quietly hid himself behind a shelf, three shelves down.  Everyone else was to preoccupied to notice.

"Luckily, we have a lot of toy handcuffs."

Travis looked at Dwayne.

"Take Pops and the guard over to the right side of this shelf and cuff them."

While Dwayne cuffs the two men, Travis walked up to Jack.

              "Hands behind your back."

Travis cuffed Jack, then glared him for a few seconds.

"You couldn't stand it, could youYou just couldn't do it, could youYou couldn't leave well enough aloneYou couldn't mind your own businessYou couldn't keep your nose  out of where it doesn't belong."

Jack: "We're in the middle of a Tylenol scare hereI just wanted to make sure no one was in danger."

Travis: "Boy, did you miss the markBecause the only one in danger is YOU."

David carefully peaked from behind the shelf he was hiding behind.  He could see part of Jack three selves down.  Jack was facing away form David and Travis was facing toward him.

Dwayne: "Dude, what do you mean by that?

Travis: "Let's just say that Chicago will less reporter to about."

Dwayne: "Oh, come on, manLet's just leaveThey're all handcuffed."

Travis: "The situation's changed, so plans are gonna change."

Travis slowly looked at Dwayne.

           "C'est la vie, right?"

Travis slowly looked back at Jack and pointed his pistol at him.

Dwayne: "You wanna murder rapWe're not killers, man."

Travis: "Prepare to meet your Maker."

David could hear the clicking of the safety being taken off from across the room.  David didn't want Jack McGee's life to taken.  David quickly ran out from behind the shelves and yelled:

David: "No!!"

David rammed Travis.  When the gun went off, it shot up to the ceiling, instead of jack.  On reflex, Jack turned toward the shelves, fell to his knees, then fell to his right side.  Both Travis and David fell out of the pharmacy, down the steps, and onto the marble floor.  Travis landed at the immediate bottom of the steps.  David fell about 6 feet further away, more toward the back door of the store.  David fell on his stomach and hit his chin on the floor.  He tried to squerm around, but his movements were limited due to having been handcuffed behind his back.  Travis stood up and walked over to where David was.  He stood quietly for a cuple of seconds while he glared at David.

Travis: "No heroics, huh?""

Travis, then, pointed his pistol at David, but when he pulled the trigger, there were no bullets.  After a couple more seconds, he tried to pull the trigger 3 more times in a row, but no bullets.  Angerily, Travis kicked David in the ribs and stomach 5 or 6 times.  Travis turned around, walked back into the pharmacy, and closed the door behind him.  David's was sweating and his heart was pounding.  Plus, he was growing angrier as he tried to move around but couldn't....  Then, it happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNc9XxdwqaM

The metamorphosis began.  David's eyes turned from white to a pale green.

               "Give me your gun."

Dwayne: "Why?"

Travis: "I'm outta bulletsGive me your gun."

Dwayne: "Mine isn't loaded."

Travis: "What?"

David's shirt ripped off his body.  The toy handcuffs he was bound by snapped as if they were tin foil.  His pants tore halfway up  the middle and his boot tore right off his feet.  He was now the Hulk.  The Hulk stood, growling.

Dwayne: "I was serious about not killing anybody."

Travis: "Yeah, and now we have all these living witnessesYOU IDIOT!"

Suddenly, there was a loud roar outside the pharmacy door.

Dwayne: "What the hell was that?"

Dwayne walked over to the pharmacy door, but before he could open it, the Hulk busted the entire door off, causing Dwayne to fall backwards and full to the floor, on his back with the door on top of him.  Dwayne saw the Hulk and was at a loss of words and movement.  He laid there, with the door on top of his, in fear of the Hulk.  The Hulk's attention, then, turned to Travis.  The Hulk's face and demeanor changed.  He did not like Travis at all and Travis could see it in his eyes.  At first, Travis tried to back up to the back of the right side of the shelves.  To keep that from happening, the Hulk pushed one of the shelves backwards, which created at domino effect with the other shelves.  Travis knew that he  could only go forward now.  Growling, the Hulk slowly walked up to Travis.  The Hulk grabbed Travis by his shirt,as Tarvis looked him square in the eyes with teror.  Thulk through Travis through the metal curtain, out of the pharmacy window, and on the floor.  The Hulk, then, flexed his muscles and let out a loud roar.  The Hulk walked over to McIntire and Gerard.

McIntire: "Oh my holy God."

Gerard: "He's bigger than I remember."

The Hulk gently turned McIntire and Gerard around and broke the handcuffs off of them.  Then, h walked over to Jack McGee.  He gently lifted Jack off the ground and broke the handcuffs off of him.  Jack and the Hulk looked at each other face-to-face.  It was a quiet moment.  Jack stood in amazement of the Hulk's presence...  Then Travis slowly stood up where he was and began to run out the back door.  After the Hulk busted the the pharmacy window, the Hulk followed Travis.  Travis ran out the back door and through the parking lot.  He quickly got into his car, turned on the ignition, shifted the car into "drive," the stepped on the gas.  Just as he began to go forward, something made the car come to a complet stop.  Travis pushed on the gas even harder, but the car still wouldn't move.  He looked back to see what was wrong, and he saw the Hulk holding on to his back bumper.  The Hulk began to lift the ca, which made Travis shift the car into "park."  Once the ca got to a certain angle, the Hulk slowly tilted the car to the right.  Travis quickly climbed out of the front driver's side window and landed on the pavement.  McIntire, Gerard, and Jack had ran through the parking lot and reached the car at that point.  The Hulk flwexed his muscles once again and let out another loud roar.  ?Then, the Hulk could heard police sirens from afar.  The Hulk flees the scene as the police sirens get closer.  While Gerard was holding his own pistol, he took the mask off of Travis.

Gerard: "You're not going anywhere, kid."

Once the police had reached the parking lot: McIntire, Gerard, and Jack watch the Hulk as he ran off into the distance.

Marj and McIntire were standing around watching the carpenters carpenter repair the damage to the
pharmacy.

Mstj: "It's hard to believe that one green creature can do so much damage."

McIntire: "Oh I knowI can say one thing about Gerard: he wasn't lyingThat creature was huge."

Marj: "How long do you think it'll take for the workers to repair all the damages?"

McIntire: "I recon the pharmacy will be up and running by Monday."

Marj: "Did you ever find out what happened to David?"

McIntire: "No, he disappeared after that creature showed upIt's tto bad, tooHe was the best assistant I ever had."

Marj:: "Yeah, well, after the way this place treated him, wouldn't blame him if he never comes back."

McIntire: "We'll never see him againI do hope that where ever he ishe's happy and safe."

Above Marj and McIntire, there was a television mounted on the wall.  Thew was just about end   A young news anchorwoman in her early 30's, with dark hair and brown eye, dressed in business suit,
"2Lastly, in the news today: two young men, Dwayne Rogers and Travis Soden, were arrested last night for attempted robbery and assault.   Because tow had no prior convictions, their Public Defender convinced the judge to lighten their sentence to 6 months of community serviceIt looks like these two will be spending the winter outside most of the time and Jack Frost will be nipping at their noses a lot more often than others.
Also, it looks like 'John Doe' has given us the slip once againOnce authorities obtained information of where 'John Doe' was living, he had already vacated the premisesAll that was left of him was a pair of girl's tennis shoes and a pink sweatshirt, bearing a note that contained a girl's name address to where to return the two itemsHis hereabouts remain unknown.
For  WCIU News at Noon, I'm Veronica Roberts."

[Ted Koppel's voice]: "The Food and Drug Administration broadened its warning to a nationwide level.  We're advising consumers as the warning to not take Extra Strength Tylenol until a series of deaths in the Chicago area can be clarified.Six deaths have been linked to the capsules, which are laced with cyanide and, late today, the manufacturer of Tylenol offered a 100,000 dallar reward to anyone who may have information on who may have poisoned to pills.  Max Robinson has more on the story.  Max?  "[Max Robinson's vioce]: "Here in Chicago,
what started out as a series of mysterious, unrelated deaths 48 hours ago, has resulted in the biggest drug warning in U.S. history. It all began Wednesday morning when 12-year-oldMary Kellerman died.Within twelve hours, there were five dead in suburban Chicago.A sixth would die later. All victims of Extra Strength Tylenol capsules laced with Cyanide.Within twenty-four hours, almost 4.7 million capsules were ordered recalled by the manufacturer,           McNeil Company,a division of Johnson and Johnson from stores in 37 states. And by noon today in Washington, the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers nationwide not to take any Extra Strength Tylenol products.   "[Mark Novitch's voice]: "Until the situation becomes clear,it would be a prudent move — although the problem is limited to the Chicago area — not to use the product."[Max Robinson's voice]: "Everyday,Americans consume over 48 million pills and capsules.
Over 33 ½ million of those are Extra Strength Tylenol. But today, across the country, from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles,Tylenol products were being pulled from the shelves. Here in Chicago and cities throughout the nation, hospitals have been flooded by calls from people frightened by the Tylenol scare. This is Rush Presbyterian Saint Luke's Medical Center setup as a crisis control headquarters for the entire metropolitan area.  Staffed around the clock, the staff has answered over a thousand inquiries and is accepting products brought in by the public.  Hospitals around Chicago are distributing cyanide-      antidotekits to police and paramedic units. Some of those units are going through suburban Chicago communities issuing warnings. So far, poisoned Tylenol capsules have been discovered in fifty capsule-sized bottles bearing two allotted identification numbers, either MC2880 or 1910MD.All bottles with those numbers have been ordered recalled.Anybody person with that allot should return them to where they were purchased.Investigators in Chicago said capsules taken by all six victims had each been pried open, then laced with Cyanide.            And while the difference in appearance of a regular capsule and a poisoned one is usually noticeable, authorities are waning consumers should not try to judge a capsule safe on their own.Although the problem seems to be limited to the Chicago area, authorities have additional warnings nationwide. They point out the Chicago's O'Hare Airport is the busiest in the nation. And anyone passing through who may have purchased Tylenol at the Airport or in the area should immediately turn the drug in to their local authorities...     " "

On Friday, October 1Teresa Janus was taken off life support at Northwest Community Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.  When Paula Prince was a no-show for her next flight, the police were called to investigate her whereabouts.  At 5:00 p.m., that evening, Police discovered the body of Paula Prince in her Old Town apartment at 1540 North LaSalle Street.  When the police arrived, they found an open bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol on her vanity and her body in the bathroom.  Earlier that evening, she drove to the Old Town Walgreens near her LaSalle Street apartment.  An ATM surveillance camera captured her buying some Extra-Strength Tylenol around 9 p.m on Wednesday night.  It is surmised that she had taken the pills late that Wednesday night.  After testing her blood, it was conclusive that the cause of death was cyanide poisoning, which made her the seventh victim fatally poisoned by cyanide.

On Monday, October 4th,,the behest of Mayor Byrne, the Chicago City Council passes an ordinance requiring tamper-resistant packaging for all drugs sold in stores.

More tainted capsules were discovered on store shelves. The manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson, were able to work out that the contamination had occurred after the Tylenol had left the factory,so sabotage during production was ruled out.. Police decided that someone must have taken the bottles off store shelves, opened the capsules, laced them with cyanide, put the capsules back in the bottles and put the bottles back on store shelves.

In the wake of the Tylenol poisonings, pharmaceutical and food industries dramatically improved their packaging, instituting tamper-proof seals and indicators, and increasing security controls during the manufacturing process.  This method of packaging is used to this day.

There have been suspects, but no one has been arrested or convicted for the poisonings.  To this day,the perpetrator(s) and motive remain unknown and the Tylenol murders remain unsolved.

"The Lonely Man" theme by Joe Harnell begins to play.  As it plays, David was walking along the side of the road on the 72°, with his brown leather duffel bag around his left shoulder,roughly 61 ¼ miles south of Chicago and heading southeast, halfway to the Indiana state line.  As cars passed by him, he put his thumb out to hitch hike.  The song continues to play until the end, as David continued to walk further down the road.
